Chester le Street Civic Choir welcome you to their recording of 'The Yeoman of England'.

The video was recorded by a member of the public when the Choir performed the song at the 'Do You Hear the People Sing' Concert at St. George's Church in Washington, Sunderland on Saturday, 9th July 2022.

The song is taken from the English comic opera, 'Merrie England' by Edward German. The patriotic story concerns love and rivalries at the court of Queen Elizabeth I, when a love letter sent by Sir Walter Raleigh to one of Queen Elizabeth's ladies-in-waiting, Bessie Throckmorton, ends up in the hands of the Queen.
